Obituary

William J. Schiegg, beloved spouse, father, grandfather, and dedicated educator, passed away on April 8, 2026 at the age of 83.

Born on April 30, 1942 in Manitowoc at Holy Family Hospital to his parents Joseph and Catherine (Berger) Schiegg, Bill attended Lincoln High School and later obtained his Bachelors in Education and Masters in Guidance Counseling from UW Oshkosh. Bill married the love of his life, Nina, on June 7, 1969. Starting as a teacher in Rhinelander (1964-1966) and then later in Menasha (1966-1999), Bill devoted his life to shaping young minds as a 5th grade teacher. On weekends and after school, he could be seen coaching youth sports teams. Despite earning his Masters, Bill opted to stay in the classroom because he believed he could reach more kids through teaching. He inspired his students with patience, humor, and a genuine love of learning. Having a special gift connecting with kids, he left a lasting impact not only on their education but on their confidence and character, and heard back from many long after they had graduated from his classroom. He was especially known for his quick wit, classroom pranks, and puns.

After retirement, Bill and Nina spent winters in Florida. Bill was an avid reader and also enjoyed tennis, pickleball, long walks, bike rides, books of many genres, and the warm sunshine. It was a place that brought him joy and many happy memories shared with family and friends. He also loved to travel with his siblings and their spouses, visiting many state and national parks, Ireland, Europe, and several other destinations.

Above all, Bill cherished his family. He was a loving husband to Nina and a proud and loving father to Brian (Jennifer) Schiegg and Julie (Matt) Ritchie and found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren (Will, Josh, Ryan, and Kayla). Whether reading stories together, playing catch, sharing laughter or simple everyday moments, he created memories that will be treasured forever. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, humor, humility, and countless “dad jokes” and puns.

He is survived by his wife Nina; his children, Brian (Jennifer) Schiegg and Julie (Matt) Ritchie; his grandkids, Will, Josh, Ryan, and Kayla; siblings, Joe (Nancy) Schiegg, Vic (Nancy) Schiegg, Jim (Nancy) Schiegg, Maxine (Dennis) Kay; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine (Berger) Schiegg.

Special thanks to Valley VNA Memory Care, Cherry Meadows Hospice, and friends Norm and Peggy Munson and Jay Parish.

A visitation will be held on July 25, 2026, starting at 10:30 am at Bubolz Nature Preserve with a celebration of life to follow at 11:30 am. Bill will be laid to rest at St. Gregory Cemetery in Saint Nazianz, WI. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Bill to Bubolz Nature Preserve, 4815 N.
