William C. Playman

PLAYMAN, WILLIAM

William Playman, 92, died on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Rennes Health Center, Appleton. He was born on April 3, 1916 to Alva and Ernest Playman in St. Croix Falls, WI. Bill married Rosemary Gerritts on October 4, 1941. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Bill served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at Kimberly Clark Corporation his entire career. Bill was a member of St. Bernard Parish, Appleton, and active in the University of Minnesota Fox Valley Alumni Club, the Knights of Columbus, and several other parish and civic organizations.

He is survived by his loving daughters: Susan (James) Haase and Mary (Robert) Moran; grandchildren: Robert (Christine) Moran, Meghan Moran, William Haase; great-grandchildren: Matthew and William Moran; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rosemary, his sisters, Marion (James) Patterson, and Norma (Ray) Johnson; his brother Gordon Playman; and his granddaughter Jamie Haase.

The funeral liturgy for Bill will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 26, 2009 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 W. Pine Street, Appleton with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. The burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph Food Pantry are appreciated.
