Age 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. He was born in Fremont on November 7, 1921 the son of the late William and Wilhelmina (Krueger) Warnke. On September 27, 1947 he married his wife of 64 years, Lorraine Eckes, in Appleton. Wendell was proud to serve in the United States Army, serving as a mechanic in Biloxi, MS, and was also trained as a Nose Gunner on a B-17. He worked for Waupaca County as a mechanic and also for Outagamie County. He retired from the City of Appleton in 1986. Wendell enjoyed the outdoors and time in his vegetable garden and raspberry patch. He was also an avid bowler and Milwaukee Brewer fan.
Wendell will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Lorraine. He had four brothers: Walter, William, Warner and Wesley; and a sister, Wilma.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at Appleton Highland Memorial Park, Star of Hope Chapel, with Rev. James Wiebel officiating. Friends will be received at Highland Memorial Park from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will follow.
The family extends a special thank you to the nurses at Southern Care Hospice and the loving and caring staff at Grand Horizons Assisted Living.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Wendell's name is being established.
