Walter “Walley” Joseph Weirnik Jr, age 75, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023. He was born in Pennsylvania on May 28th, 1947 to Betty Selig and Walter Wiernik Sr. At a young age, Walley moved from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin with his mother. Out of highschool he joined the Navy and served our country in Vietnam. Walley began working as a pipe fabricator with Pace Corporation in 1979 up until his retirement.
When his children were young he enjoyed spending his weekends with family and friends at Evergreen Campground. The highlight of his summer was his annual corn roast which he loved grilling on his custom self-made corn roaster. Later in life, through social media and technology he reconnected with his Pennsylvania family and found he also had a half-brother in California. This is also when it was discovered that Walley’s last name was spelled incorrectly since birth. In the last few years, Walley enjoyed traveling to Pennsylvania for a family reunion and to California to spend time with his new found brother.
Walley is survived by his children, Jesse (Shannon) Weirnik and Beth (Travis) Nagle; grandsons Anthony Weirnik, Dominic and Drake Nagle; siblings Pam Klassen, Wayne Kersten, Brian (Jeanette) Kersten, Rob Koehn, Mac McElwee; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private ceremony with military honors for the family. A corn roast in remembrance of Walley is being planned for August.
