Wally Zastrow, 97, of Menasha, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
Wally was born on October 31, 1926, in Lake City, Minnesota, to Albert and Selma Zastrow.
He graduated from Ironwood High School in Ironwood Michigan in 1943 and joined the United States Marine Corps at 17 years old. He served in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II.
After his military service, he moved to Menasha, Wisconsin where he started working at Kimberly Clark. He worked there for 41 years and retired in 1988.
During his retirement he started painting and really enjoyed painting with watercolor and oil. He also took an interest in photography and found an unknown skill in this new hobby as well. He was very talented, often framing his art and gifting it to friends and family.
He became an avid walker, walking for fitness long before it became a popular thing to do. He walked all through Menasha 3-6 miles every day. Wally loved to golf and, in his retirement, had more time to spend golfing with friends, associates and his sons.
Wally is survived by his children Peter (Sandy), Steve (Carrie), Judy (Mark) Rodriguez, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Emma, Helen, John and Peter, son Richard, daughter Jan and great-granddaughter Allyssa.
Visitation for Wally will be held on Saturday November 18, 2023 at Wichmann Laemmrich Funeral Home (312 Milwaukee St., Menasha) from 10:30 until the time of service at 12:00 pm. The service will be followed by full military honors.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Neenah/Menasha VFW Post 2126.
