Verla Mae Liebzeit, age 79, was peacefully called to her heavenly home on Monday, April 5, 2010, with her family by her side. Verla was born in Appleton on August 1, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Minnie (Marcks) Bergholz. She was a 1948 graduate from the Appleton High School and on December 9, 1950, was united by God in marriage to the late Henry “Hank” Liebzeit. Verla spent her life building a warm and loving home for her family.
She was a longtime and faithful member of Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, helped count the weekly offerings, worked for funeral meals, and volunteered to deliver recordings of the worship services to those were not able to attend. She will also be remembered as a wonderful cook, for her love of crafts, and as a very wise shopper.
Verla is survived by two sons: Thomas (Ann) Liebzeit of Pembine and Scott Liebzeit of Hortonville; two grandchildren: Jodi (Ben) Baumgart of Hortonville and Joshua Liebzeit of Greenville; two great-grandsons: Brent and Blake Baumgart; a brother: Nathan (Marlyn) Bergholz of Appleton; a sister: Suzanne (Darrell) Behnke of Appleton; three sisters-in-law: Rachel Liebzeit, Erna Liebzeit, and Edith Liebzeit, all of Appleton; and a special aunt: Jetty Johnson. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Verla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hank in 1995, Hank's parents: Henry and Lydia Liebzeit, brothers-in-law: Roland Liebzeit, Edgar Liebzeit, Merlin Liebzeit, and John Liebzeit; and a sister-in-law: Marge Liebzeit.
The Christian Funeral for Verla will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at MOUNT OLIVE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 E. Florida Avenue in Appleton, with Rev. Robert Raasch officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church.
The family would like to offer their special thanks to the staff at Living Tree Estates in Greenville, as well as Theda Care At Home Hospice for the loving care given to Verla, and for making her trip home more comfortable. Our appreciation also goes out to Elaine Schumacher for being such a good friend. Your friendship meant so much to Verla.
Grandma – We love you so much, and we will miss you. You've been the best grandma anyone could ask for. Love, Jodi, Josh, Brent, and Blake.
