Thomas J. Woods, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 31, 2024.He was born on Feb. 28, 1932 to the late Walter and Annette Woods and was a lifelong resident of Appleton. He married Janette Hardy on January 29, 1955 and they spent 58 wonderful years together.
Tom was an electrician by trade and his sense of humor was his calling card. Even on his final day, when the doctor told him there was nothing more they could do, he looked at him and said, "Well, I guess I have my tee time then." Tom was always willing to share his time and talents, in a public role as Outagamie County supervisor and through numerous volunteer efforts. He and Janette also agreed to assist the late Fr. Timon Costello and hosted troubled youth in their home while raising a young family. He was a man of deep faith who served his church and loved his family.Tom also loved to garden, fish, hunt, golf and, like everyone else, both cheered and jeered the Green Bay Packers as a season ticket holder dating back to when they played at City Stadium. On the day of the Ice Bowl, Janette asked Tom what the temperature was. "Thirteen degrees," he said, conveniently forgetting the word "minus." Despite that hiccup, Tom and Janette enjoyed a wonderful retirement, spending winters in Naples, Fla. with over 30 family and friends, and summers at Boulder Lake in Wisconsin for many years.
Tom also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Tom is survived by his three children, Colleen (Larry) Lueck, Michael (Antonet) Woods and Tim (Debbie) Woods; grandchildren Aaron (Lauren) Woods, Andrea (Todd) Phillips, Jerrod (Kelsey) Woods, James (fiance Cassie) Woods and Andrew (fiance Britney) Woods; and great grandchildren Gianna, Catherine, Monica and Daniel Phillips, Julia and Robert Woods and Hazel Woods. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Janette; parents, Walter and Annette Woods and sister Patricia (Gomm).
