Thomas E. Resch, age 82 of Appleton, WI passed away surrounded by his family on April 6th, 2026. He was born to Wilfred and Elsie Resch on September 28th, 1943 in Menasha, Wi. Thomas graduated from St. Mary’s High School of Menasha and began working at George Banta Publishing at age 17 until retirement. He willfully served in the National Guard for 7 years. During this time he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Weller and married October 1966.
Thomas was a true family man and loved his wife, children, grandchildren and sister. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a great passion for hunting, fishing, and gardening. In addition to the outdoors, he loved his animals and spending time in nature. During his younger years he raised a variety of animals, which he tended to patiently and passionately and included many two-legged and four-legged creatures. One could often find him at his favorite second home on Roberts Lake in Wabeno, WI where he proudly ran a family resort for 30 years with his wife. During this time, he made many friends and considered the resort patrons his extended family. While up north he spent countless hours on the end of the pier fishing, sitting on his tractor and in the woods cutting trees for firewood. When in good company, he especially enjoyed a cold beer, good black berry brandy and peanuts along with a good game of sheepshead and cribbage. More than anything, he loved his family and friends and cherished every moment he spent with them.
Thomas will be deeply missed by his wife, Carol; his children, Angelina Jopke (Pete), Scott Resch (Rhonda), and Jennifer Meyer (Chad); along with his grandchildren, Jordan Jopke, Mitchell Resch, Kyle Meyer, Jessica Jopke, Jackson Resch, and Mikayla Meyer; his sister, Kathryn Schierl (Mark); as well as his extended family including many sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilfred and Elsie; and his parents-in-law, Sanford and Patronella.
A funeral visitation will be held from 9:30-11:15 AM on Friday, April 17, 2026 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W Marquette Street, Appleton, WI with a mass to follow at 11:30 AM.
Thomas’ family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and other supportive staff at ThedaCare At Home and Hospice for the excellent care and compassion given in his time of need.
