Thomas Protheroe, age 77, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Tom was born in Neenah on October 15, 1934, son of the late Gordon and Mildred (Kuntz) Protheroe. He was a 1954 graduate of the Menasha High School, and on November 28, 1958 married the former Audrey Miller in Oshkosh; she survives. Tom served his county in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 until 1956, and worked as a sheet metal work all over the country until his retirement in 1997. He had been a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association #18 for forty years. He was a generous man who was always willing and able to help his friends and neighbors with any projects they had going on. Tom loved being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, and waterfowl hunting. He was an expert marksman!
Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years: Audrey Protheroe of Menasha; four children: Scott, Lori (Dean), Kathy, and Jan; his grandchildren: Jessica, William, Christopher, Rachel, Michelle, Joel, Sara, and Eli; his great-grandchildren: Ella, Emily, Chase, and Irelynn; five brothers and sisters: Mary Ann (Al) Mills, John (Jackie) Protheroe, Carol Block, William (Jeanie) Protheroe, and Judy (Doug) Kuchenbecker; and a sister-in-law: Betty Protheroe. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Harold Palmer and Duane Protheroe; a sister-in-law Shirley Palmer; and a brother-in-law Jerry Block.
A memorial service for Tom will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the funeral home chapel at 3212 S. Oneida Street in Menasha, with Rev. Judy Deckert officiating. Friends may call directly at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to thank everyone at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton for the wonderful care, compassion, and love that was shown to the entire family. We will never forget your kindness.
