Obituary

Thomas “Tom” G. Berghuis, age 81, passed away on June 28, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 26, 1945, to John and Mary (Ashauer) Berghuis. Tom was raised in Kaukauna, attended Kaukauna High School and furthered his education by attending UW Stevens Point. Following college, he enlisted in the Army and served by flying helicopters in Vietnam. For his service, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism and Bronze Star, both of which brought him great pride.

Upon returning to the States, he met Terese “Terri” Levandoski. It was a chance meeting wherein they both knew “this was the one” and married on June 21, 1974. They settled in the Appleton area and raised their children. Tom worked at Keller Structures for 28 years.

Tom was active in the lives of his children. Golfing and snowmobiling were top of the list followed by joyous pontoon boat rides around the lake in Townsend. He was a mad cribbage and sheephead player and he enjoyed spending time with his friends.

Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years Terri, his children: Angela (Dave) Jansen, Rick (Kelly) Berghuis, David (Lindsey) Berghuis; grandchildren: Brooke, Khloe, Parker, Portia, Macy, Tommy, Maddie. He is further survived by his siblings: Jack Berghuis, Betty (Dave) Hahn, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Ruth (Dell) Brayton, Joan (Bill) Van Dyke, Bob (Betty) Berghuis, Mary DeBruin, and sister-in-law Rose Berghuis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00pm on Thursday July 16, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 600 Kimberly Ave, Kimberly. Friends and family may gather at the church from 12:00pm until mass begins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be made to Portia’s Purpose to positively affect the lives of children experiencing the cancer journey.
