Obituary

Thomas H. Aykens passed away on July 18, 2026 at the age of 85 and was born in Appleton, WI on July 17, 1941 to the late Harold & Genevieve (Maurer) Aykens. Tom passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after courageous 29-year battle with Parkinsons Disease. Tom graduated from St Mary’s High School, in Menasha, Class of 1959. Tom married Nancy (Klein) on June 26th 1965 and celebrated 61 years of marriage. In 1969 Tom took over the family business as the 3rd generation of Memorial Florists & Greenhouses, Inc. Tom successfully operated the family business with his children for 39 years. He was a generous man with his time and talent and served on many boards across the country. Tom traveled with People to People and some of his greatest travels included China and Russia. Tom was also a volunteer firefighter for the Town of the Menasha Fire Department for 20 years with his uncle Clarence Sturm and father Harold Aykens.

Tom is survived by his wife Nancy and three children, Kathryn (Joseph) Elrick, Mary (Jamie) Jurgella, Robert (Tara) Aykens, his grandchildren, Jacob (Alecia) Elrick, Grace (Justin) Sell, Elizabeth (Adam) Thiede, Brady Jurgella, Carley Jurgella, Owen Aykens, Michaela Aykens, his great grandchildren, Jack, Ava, John, Joe, Alex. Tom is also survived by his brother Bill Aykens, sister Betty (Ted) Wenning, brother-in-law Bob (Mary) Klein and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Erwin & Lydes Klein, sister-in-law Jean Aykens, nephew David Aykens, brother-in-law David (Kathy) Klein.

Tom and his family are grateful to the many caregivers at Oakridge Gardens & Bristol Hospice for their care and kindness during the last 2 years.

A memorial mass will take place on Friday July 31, 2026, at 10:30am at St Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W Lawrence Street, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:00am until mass begins. Tom will be laid to rest at St Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.
