Sue Hayes, 62, of Menasha, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston with her family at her side. She was born on March 3, 1948 in Waukesha, the daughter of the late Gerald and Phyllis (Wisner) Baalrud. On September 30, 1972, Sue married the love of her life, Patrick Hayes at St. Marks Ev. Lutheran Church in Waukesha. She was an elementary music teacher in New Mexico and Oconomowoc, retiring from the Neenah Public School System in 2004 after 28 years of employment. Sue was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Appleton and was active with the Prayer Circle and Women’s Bible Study. Her love of music showed in her involvement with the handbell choir, singing in the church choir, and as accompanist for Monday evening services. Many will recall Sue’s generosity with her enjoyment of sewing, knitting, scrap booking and baking. Sue was a very caring and giving lady and was always there to help in whatever capacity she was able to. She loved going up north and taking her daily walks. Sue’s family meant the world to her, and she cherished the time spent with her granddaughters.
Sue is survived by her loving husband: Pat Hayes, Menasha; her dear sons: Chris Hayes, Brown Deer and Brandon (Michelle) Hayes, Hartford; her precious granddaughters: Ellie and Audrey Sue Hayes; step-mother: Mary Jane Baalrud, Waukesha; sister: Karen Baalrud, Green Bay; brothers-in-law: Mike Hayes, Santa Barbara, California and Murph Hayes, San Diego, California; aunts: Harriet LeClare, Tomahawk and Jo (Bob) Wisner, Wild Rose; nieces and nephews: Kirsten (Luis) Murgas, Hartford; Kara (Paul) Bennett-Boehm, Waukesha; Erick (Becky) Bennett, Milwaukee; Hilary Hayes, Los Angeles, California and Rachel (Stuart) Hayes-Gayle, New York City. She is further survived by her cousins, great nieces and nephews, and many caring friends.
The funeral service for Sue will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 E. Calumet Street, Appleton. Rev. Roger McQuistion and Rev. Gary Nokleberg will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday at the CHURCH from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Memorials are appreciated to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or Prince of Peace Helping Hands.
