Washington D.C., Passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 14, 2026. He was born on April 3, 1958 in the Kaukauna area. He was the son of his late parents Kenn and Beverly Smith and is also predeceased by sister Maxine Smith. Steve grew up in the Kaukauna area. He received a Master’s Degree from Purdue University and began his career working for the federal government, first for the Dept. of Labor and then, for the last 35 years for the Smithsonian Institution. He was liked by his colleagues and did exceptional work during his long tenure there. He will be greatly missed by his work colleagues as well as his family.

He leaves behind his beloved Aunt, Barbara Wooten of Leesburg,Florida as well as his cousins Debra Conlin, Diane Brody, David Pierce, Donald Pierce, Douglas Pierce and Bryan Wooten.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Kaukauna. Conducting the service will be Pastor Lynn Martin of the Immanuel United Church of Christ of Kaukauna.
