Steven S. Schmit

October 14, 1949 — April 23, 2007

Schmit, Steven S.

Steven S. Schmit, age 57, of Appleton, died unexpectedly, Monday morning, April 23, 2007. He was born October 14, 1949, to the late Kenneth E. and Jane E. (Piette) Schmit, in Appleton, where he was a resident all of his life. Steve was a member of the U. S. Marine Corps, 3rd Marine Division and served two tours in Vietnam. He was employed by Cargill for many years and most recently at Valley Drill Sharpening. One of Steve’s greatest joys was hunting and fishing. He’ll be missed by all his friends who traveled with him to various fishing holes and hunting grounds including Canada. Steve was very involved with his daughter, Carrie’s ARC activities. He is survived by his wife, Diane M. Bates-Schmit; four daughters, Melissa Schmit, Carrie Schmit, Maria (Dave) Marquissee and Stephanie Bates and her friend Craig; his grandchildren, Mike and Olivia, Sonya and Taylor, Ross, Ashley, Alex and Zachary; two brothers, Mike (Karen) Schmit, Dave (Judy) Schmit; a sister, Kris (Steve) Hofman; his mother-in-law, Phyllis Mauthe; sisters-in-law, Jane (Harv) Schaefer, Pauline Mauthe, Paula (Ken) Skitch; brothers-in-law, Mark Mauthe, Dave (Tracie) Mauthe; nieces and nephews; and friends, Willy and Anne Luedtke. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Lawrence Mauthe. Funeral services for Steve will be held at 6:30 pm, Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the funeral home, with Deacon Patrick Whitcomb officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:30 pm until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.

I can’t express the sorrow I’m feeling for the death of my good friend Steve. I will always think of the good times we had while hunting and fishing (never the missed shots, never the missed fish). I will always miss the talks we had about life, friendships and the love we had for our families. Your Friend, Willy

Our time with you seemed so short. We love you and miss you, Dad. Until we meet again. Love Maria, Stephanie, Melissa and Carrie.
