Steven “Steve” Gerard Dorn, age 72 of Appleton, WI passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. An easy-going, fun-loving guy, Steve brought warmth, rhythm, and a spirit of adventure to everyone who knew him. After graduating from New Holstein High School with the class of ’71, he went on to earn his technical degree from Moraine Park Technical College in ’73. He spent most of his life as a computer technician, finishing out his career driving truck, proudly following in his dad’s tire treads. In June of 1975, he married the love of his life, Mary, and together they shared a beautiful life filled with laughter and devotion.
Anyone who knew Steve outside of work knew he belonged near the water—most likely found on a Florida beach or captaining his boat. He lived for the ocean breeze, catching waves, and those quiet mornings on the balcony, coffee in hand, watching the sunrise over the Atlantic. He was never one to miss the stunning sunset at the end of each day. His appreciation for the water spanned from the coastal tides to the lakes and rivers of Wisconsin. Combining his love for the open water with his generous spirit, Steve proudly served as a dedicated member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
On land, Steve was just as vibrant. He was the ultimate grill master for countless gatherings, expertly cooking up burgers, brats, and veggies for the people he loved. He also carried a lifelong love for music, keeping the beat as the drummer for both his high school rock ‘n roll band, Reverse Action, and the Chilton City Marching Band. Never one to take himself too seriously, Steve also proudly won the "Ugly Man" competition during his sophomore year of high school, a testament to his great sense of humor and popularity.
Steve is survived by his brother Leo (JoAnn) Dorn; niece and nephew, Kristine Fox and Andrew Dorn; his furry cat companion; as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary (Kabat) Dorn; his parents; Leo and Marie (Bosma) Dorn.
Steve will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
