Chavlovich, Stephen
Stephen Chavlovich, 79, of Appleton passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He was born on March 4, 1930 in McKees Rocks, PA to the late John and Barbara (Cvitesic) Chavlovich after they emigrated from Croatia. Steve served in the US Army from 1948 until 1951. On July 14, 1951 he married Marie Herman and worked as a police officer in Sheboygan while attending Lakeland College. Shortly after graduating from Lakeland in 1958, they moved to Appleton and Steve started to work for Boldt Construction. He retired from Boldt as Vice President-Labor Relations in 1995 after 37 years. Steve was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Appleton Noon Optimists Club and VFW Post #38. He enjoyed spending summers at his cottage on Shawano Lake. Steve was an avid Packers fan and watched many games on his 50 yard line seats at Lambeau Field. Steve is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie, 4 children Nancy (Ken) Woodward, Madison; John (Karen) Chavlovich, Appleton; Mark Chavlovich, Appleton; and David (Stephanie) Chavlovich, Arlington, TX; 7 grandchildren, Stephen and Drew Woodward, Jaclyn Chavlovich, Kelli and Ryan Wirth, D'von Campbell and David Chavlovich Jr., 2 sisters Kay and Mary, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Joseph, John, and Albert and 2 sisters Barbara and Ann.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 11:30 AM at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior St., with Pastor Daniel Thews officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, July 20 from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley, Inc.
