Shirley A. (Arts) Flynn, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born on April 8, 1935 to Lawrence and Minnie (Berben) Arts. On September 7, 1957 she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Flynn. Shirley occasionally worked outside of the home to support her husband and children’s education. She enjoyed spending time with her good friends and her family, shopping, and playing cards. She was a two time cancer survivor.
Shirley is survived by three children, Thomas Flynn, Carrie (David) Fleming, and Tim Flynn; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Staum, Tarah (Chris) Jansen, Hannah (Jimmy) Prince, Grace (Charlie) Kennelly-Gretz, Eva Gretz, Mia Flynn, and Kyra Flynn; great-grandchildren, Colton Jansen, Maddox Jansen, Weston Jansen, Lizzie Staum, Stella Staum, and Everett Prince; sister, Marty Nitkowski; sisters-in-law, Rosie Arts and Jean Flynn; daughters-in-law, Lynn (Kenlyn) Gretz and Therese Raedts; and neices, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Flynn; parents, Lawrence and Minnie Arts; son, Jeff Flynn; brother Larry Arts; and sister Carol Geraghty.
A funeral mass will be held for Shirley on Friday, June 5, at 11:30 AM, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer St, Kaukauna. A visitation will begin at 9:30 AM to the time of the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Paul Manor and the Appleton Medical Center ICU team for their care of Shirley, and all of the other friends that have helped during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund for Alzheimer’s Association is being established.
