Obituary

Shirley A. Dewitt ((Ziesemer), age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Shirley was born in Seymour, WI, on January 20, 1935, daughter of the late Marjorie Mantz and Carl Ziesemer.

In 1954, Shirley graduated from Appleton High School, where she met her eventual husband, Milton DeWitt. Shirley and Milton married and raised their four sons in Appleton. She later enjoyed a career working in an administrative role at Kimberly Clark.

Shirley was a phenomenal baker and cook. She embodied the Penzeys’ slogan, “Love people. Cook them tasty food.” Her home and her kitchen were always open to those she knew and loved. She enjoyed knitting, spending time with her beloved sisters, cruising around town to check out shops, spending time up north, and loving on her extended family. Her traits of resilience, unconditional love, generosity, and humor were a gift to those around her.

Shirley is survived by four sons: Dean (Anne) DeWitt of Wauwatosa, Steven (Theresa) DeWitt of Greenville, Mark (Dorothy) DeWitt of New London, and Gregory DeWitt of Appleton; sisters Donna Kuether and Audrey (Bruce) Downie; grandchildren: Laura (Dan) McCarthy, Daniel DeWitt, Amanda (Chris) Choudoir, Austin Stammer, Colette (Ian) Hageman, Kristy (Sawyer) Effertz, Cody (Abby) DeWitt, Chasity (Sean) Kopeny, Gavin, Gerard (Riley), Garet, Geofrey, and Angeline Brown; great grandchildren Brennan, Larry, Corinne, Aiden, Kyan, Kaydyn, Lyllian, Aiden, Jordan, Charlie, Hattie, Gabriel, Hudson, and Hayes; and cherished nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, and great-great nieces/nephews.

Shirley is preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Janet Ziesemer, and granddaughter Kinsey (late wife of Matthew Berg).

A funeral service will take place on Friday March 13, 2026, at 4:00pm at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N Superior Street, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 2:00pm until the service begins. Shirley will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
