Shirley Ann (Seiler) Bittorf, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026. She was born on August 16, 1939, daughter of Gerald and Ann (Kroll) Seiler in Sturgeon Bay, WI. She married Fred Bittorf June 6, 1959, in Sturgeon Bay and he preceded her in death on November 6, 2016.
Shirley was a graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School and Door Kewaunee Teachers College, Algoma. She taught in a one-room school near Abbotsford, WI and later worked at JC Penney Department Store in Antigo and then was in travel at Antigo Travel Agency. After Fred retired, the family moved to Madison where Shirley continued as a travel agent. Shirley and Fred later moved to Appleton to be near family. Over the years, they travelled to many areas of the United States and also enjoyed exploring countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Australia and Norway. Her experience in the travel agency brought them many perks! Shirley was involved in many clubs such as the Red Hatter’s and Elk’s Club.
Shirley is survived by her sons Brad and Paul (Sandra) and daughter Barbara (Jay) Carlson, her grandchildren Matthew (Veronica) Plum, Kyle Bittorf, Danny (fiancé Annie) Carlson and Michael Carlson. She is further survived by a brother Jerry (Joanne) Seiler, sister Janet (Bob) Peddecord, nieces and nephews: Terri, Mike (Beth), Patty (Ishmael), Dennis (Marsha), many nieces and nephews of Door County as well as brother-in-law Wally (Gloria) Bittorf, sister-in-law Lois Bittorf and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents, and brothers and sisters-in-law RJ (Doreen) Bittorf, Berhardt (Lois) Bittorf, Shirley (Earl) Krauel and Donald Bittorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday March 6, 2026, at 11:00am at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N McDonald Street, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:00am until mass begins. Shirley will join her husband at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
