Shirley A. Weaver 89

Shirley departed this life on August 22, 2021 after a short illness. Mom heard dogs barking and went off to join Dad and the dogs in a heavenly place.

Shirley was born in Milwaukee to Helen and Clarence Pederson in 1932. Mom’s family moved from Milwaukee to the town of Enterprise in 1947, where Mom spent her summers working at Frick’s Maple Beach Lodge. After graduation from Elcho High School in 1950, Shirley enrolled in the Milwaukee County Hospital Nurses’ Training program.
George “Bill” Weaver proposed at Keeler’s Landing on Pelican Lake and they were married in 1954.

Shirley followed Dad to Nellis AFB where she worked at the Veterans Hospital. She joined Dad when he was stationed in Germany and they started having children. Once all three kids were in school, Shirley returned to nursing full time. Mom retired as a registered nurse at Appleton Medical Center in 1994.

Shirley had an incredibly generous spirit. She gave steadily to any foundation that served Mother Nature. Shirley was always a champion for wildlife. One gift about which she was most proud was the K-9 unit gift of Zuul to the Appleton Police Department. Mom made giving a part of her life and she led by example.

Together Mom and Dad travelled to far flung places. Mom cherished her trip to Africa to witness the migration, and the spectacle stayed with her for a lifetime. They made lifelong friends in Mazatlan, where they dangled their legs over the sea wall, and baked in the sun. Mom and Dad were dubbed the “teflon flyers”, because they never missed a connection and got bumped into first class on a regular basis. Mom was always game for adventure. Closer to home, Mom and Dad spent time camping and going down every backroad in Wisconsin. They took their beloved dogs everywhere.

Shirley cherished her flower garden, feeding the birds, and making her home beautiful. Mom loved her neighbors just like she loved her kids. Mom had a fabulous sense of humor, and she was a great listener. She was also a devoted fan of the Green and Gold.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Pete. Mom is survived by one brother, Dale, and three children, Cheryl, Bill, Christianne. Also Shirley is survived by her granddaughter Bree, and numerous great grandchildren. And her cat, Malone.

The family will have a private service for Shirley. We want to thank the caregivers who helped to keep Mom in her home. You all became family. We are indebted to the nurses who helped us with Mom’s care, Paige, Heidi and Sarah. Donations in Shirley’s name can be made to the Fox Valley Humane Association or the Raptor Education Group in Antigo, WI.
