Obituary

Sally Ann Roocks, age 82, of Menasha, passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2026. She was born in Neenah, WI, on January 17, 1944, to Richard and Amber (Holtz) Thalke. She was their only child. She graduated from Menasha High School in 1962 and worked for Morton Pharmacy her entire life.

Sally met the love of her life, David Roocks, in high school. They married on July 27, 1963, and a year later welcomed their beautiful daughter, Lori. Their family was very close and did many things together, especially Sally and Lori. They loved traveling and would take many weekend trips exploring gift shops, quilting and yarn stores, and restaurants. Some of the places they visited regularly were Minocqua, Minneapolis, and Door County. For several years they went to Iowa in December for a Christmas cookie class. When the class was finished, they would have a relaxing weekend enjoying the Christmas decorations and going through the shops.

Sally had a love for dogs, especially basset hounds. Their family had five bassets throughout the years; Pepper, Cocoa, Snickers, Barkley, and Mrs. Beasley. Each one was a cherished member of the family. Sally, David, and Lori would shower them with love. They even had the dogs’ pictures taken every year with Santa and the Easter Bunny. After David passed, Mrs. Beasley was included in the weekend trips. They would find a hotel that allowed dogs, and they made sure to have special treats for Mrs. Beasley for the girl’s weekend.

Sally loved knitting and crocheting. Her mother had taught her when she was a young girl. She made many beautiful afghans, scarves, sweaters, and baby booties throughout the years and would gift them to family and friends. She also enjoyed cross stitching and made gorgeous projects that she displayed in her home. Sally became friends with some of Lori’s friends when they would spend the day crafting together.

Sally loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved going out to eat and talking, riding in the car and enjoying the scenery, getting ice cream and going to the park, going shopping and getting her hair done, visiting museums and watching movies, especially Christmas movies.

Sally is survived by her sister-in-law Gretchen (Michael) Mish; nieces and nephews Dawn (Jay) Vande Walle, Shelly (Brad) Gruszynski, Shawn (Kendra) Mish, Mike (Lydia) Lehrer, Jackie (Dan) Wisdom, Steve (Chris) Lehrer, Julie (Tim) Larsen, Pat (Karen) Lehrer, Ellen (Tom) VandenHeuvel, Ann (William) Joosten, and Paul Roocks; her beloved dog Mrs. Beasley, and many other family and friends, especially some of Lori’s dear friends from work and crafting.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband David; daughter Lori; sister-in-law Marilyn (Daniel) Lehrer; brother-in-law E. Thomas (LaVerne) Roocks; her parents Richard and Amber (Holtz) Thalke; and her in-laws Erwin and Ruth (Lemke) Roocks.

Sallys’s family extends its gratitude to the nurses and staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Kaukauna and Neenah for the wonderful care, kindness and love shown to Sally during her eight years of dialysis.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 22, 2026, at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 473 7th Street, Menasha. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 12:00 PM, with the funeral service starting at 12:00 PM.
