Royal P. Richter

Royal P. Richter, age 78, of Appleton, entered into eternal life Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Brewster Village following a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born November 17, 1930, in Iron River, MI to Loretta King. He was later adopted by William and Marion Richter. Royal graduated in 1948 from Winneconne High School. On August 18, 1951, he married Marilynn Roth in Appleton, WI. They divorced in 1974.

Royal was employed by Miller Electric for 37 years as a draftsman, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton for 57 years serving as a lector, choir member, and food pantry volunteer. He was a member of the Solo Parents Group and the I.O.O.F. Konemic Lodge No. 47. Royal also served for 20 years as an assistant scoutmaster of BSA Troop 67 of Appleton. He loved music and the performing arts; especially recitals, wind ensembles, symphonies, and theater. He frequently attended events hosted by Lawrence University and the Fox Valley Symphony. Royal also enjoyed hunting, camping, and boating.

Royal is survived by his former wife, Marilynn Richter, Englewood, FL; seven children: Daniel Richter, San Francisco, CA.; David Richter, Appleton; Steven Richter, Menasha; Paul Richter, Milwaukee; Molly (Jay) Breyer, Hortonville; Jill Richter, Mt. Horeb; Alexandre Duran, Appleton; eleven grandchildren: Ann Paden, Rachel Richter, Esther Richter, Rebecca (Ramon) Cruz, Jason Richter, Melissa Breyer, Joshua Breyer, Emily and Isabel Breyer, Derek and Yoshiko Miles; and two great-grandchildren: Sophia Paden and Tristan Cruz. Royal is further survived by his mother, Loretta Kleckner, Ocala, FL; his brother Adrian Richter, Sun Prairie; and his nephew, Jeffrey Richter and family, Sun Prairie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marion Richter, and a nephew, Jerry Richter.

Royal loved his family and instilled in them the same values that he lived by everyday. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, and his trusty dog Lobo.

A Memorial Mass for Royal will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at ST. JOESEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Father Larry Abler officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 am until the hour of Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Lawrence University Academy of Music or the Fox Valley Symphony.

Royal's family extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Brewster Village, especially Sara, Brenda, Francine, and Dr. Schultz, for their compassionate and gentle care.
