Royal "Roy"
King
January 31, 1960 – April 23, 2026
Royal “Roy” Wescott King was unexpectedly invited to the eternal music festival on April 23, 2026. He was able to be surrounded by his family when he received his invitation, which offered him much comfort as he accepted his invitation.
Roy was born to Scotty and Sylvia on January 31, 1960. Roy is survived by his daughters Mariah (Kevin) and Elora (Fiancée Ben). His grandchildren, Deckard, Raiden, Oswin, and Ezriel. His mother, Sylvia, his sisters, Rocky (Bill), and Jean. His nieces and nephews, Zanna, TC (Anneke), Gina (Mike), his great nephews Leo, Logan, Dennis, and his cats Woody and Cisco. Roy is also survived by his honorary daughter, Mysti (Sean and Greyson), and many friends, including Chris, Dave, Christopher, Heather, MAT, Rose, Paul, Ken, and Deb, all of whom will need to keep dancing to the music for him and remembering him when they are doing so. Roy was preceded in death by his love Annie, his father Scotty, a few friends, and several cats (Arlo, Guthrie, Pete).
Roy was passionate about music, and as those who knew him will confirm, he had an extensive music collection that was his pride and joy outside of his family. He found a lot of inspiration for life in the lyrics and meanings found in music. In addition to music, he was a loving dad and grandpa. He worked hard to instill in his family the importance of music in life and how it can be used to communicate. He even made a mix tape for his daughters that included many songs meant to have fun and ensure that his girls knew how much he loved them. It was a constant on vacations and is still something that is listened to by them. He also made sure to include his girls in his jean jackets that were covered in patches from various musicians, most notably the jackets covered in patches from The Beatles, which were worn proudly. Sylvia described that Roy loved fiercely, which can be seen in how he was always supportive of his family and their ambitions, making sure to help them along the way to reach their goals. He was looking forward to walking Elora down the aisle in October. He was very proud of his children and loved watching his grandchildren grow and accomplish new things. He was one of the biggest cheerleaders for the accomplishments that were made by his grandchildren, no matter how small, and was always ready to jump in and help. He was a proud cat dad throughout his life and was an avid lover of animals. Most pets that his family and friends had were quick to figure out how much he loved animals.
Outside of music and his family, Roy worked at The Post-Crescent, and he sought to be as supportive as possible for the paper carriers that he worked with. In 2022, after working there for 34 years, he retired. This enabled him to be able to spend time going to estate sales, many of which he visited with his mom. He also had a passion for rocks and minerals and could be found looking for rocks while on vacation and at rock and mineral shows that he would visit with his daughters.
Family and friends are planning to have a celebration of life to be held on June 14th.
Roy wants us all to remember what the Grateful Dead instilled in his mind “the music never stopped” and per Bob Marley “Don’t worry, about a thing, cuz every little thing is gonna be alright”. He would want us to find our own meaning in the lyrics, find inspiration in music and our passions to help guide our lives, and offer comfort when needed. He will be missed daily by his family and friends, and we should expect great seats when we receive our invitation to the eternal music festival.
