Romunda K. Van Asten

Romunda K. Van Asten, 93, the glue of our family, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024 at Matthews Senior Living, Neenah, with family surrounding her. Romunda was born June 5, 1930 to John F. and Josephine (Meyers)Portmann at home in Woodville, WI.  On July 7, 1953 she married Donald H. Van Asten at St Mary Church in Stockbridge.  Together they raised eight children on a dairy farm nearby. Romunda was her happiest when she was making and serving meals for her family for the holidays, sometimes for 35 or so people.  She enjoyed gardening and preserving some of her hard work.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Christian Ladies of St Mary Church. She helped out with the church's famous Fall Festival dinner every year and helped at the church funerals. In her younger days she enjoyed square dancing, while more recently she enjoyed doing crafts at her community based residential facility. 

Romunda is survived by her eight children: Barbara (Don Gosiewski) Van Asten, Sheila (Vincent) Galassi, David (Maria Manning) Van Asten, Mark Van Asten, Jay (Debbie) Van Asten, Lyle Van Asten, Lisa Meier, Jon Van Asten: 18 Grandchildren: 24 Great-grandchildren, Sisters: Janet Dehn, Monica Westenberger, Sister-In-Law: Fay Portmann: Many nieces and nephews.  Romunda was preceded in death by her parents John F. and Josephine Portmann, her husband Donald H. Van Asten, her grandson Brandon Van Asten, her brother Alan Portmann, and brothers-in-law Don Diedrich, Philip Westenberger, Don Hansen and Don Dehn.  

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at St. Mary Church in Stockbridge from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to thank the staff of Matthews Senior Living for making Mom's time there so enjoyable for her. The whole hands-on staff was so caring and loving to Mom, with special mention going to Jean and Barb.
