Robert “Bob” Arko a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher and coach died September 9, 2026, at Prairie Home Assisted Living in Menasha, WI. Bob was born on July 30, 1938, in McKinley, MN to Frank and Anne (Glatch) Arko. A few years later the family moved 4 miles away to Gilbert where he attended school.

From an early age Bob had a love of sports and the outdoors. He was an accomplished athlete participating in baseball, football, basketball, & tennis in high school. There was a special spot in the woods near his home called Rock Cut. He spent countless hours there trapping mink, picking berries for pies and contemplating life.

He met his wife Colleen “Coki” at a centennial celebration in 1958. They married in 1961 and shared that love for over 6 decades. They moved to Kimberly in 1963 where Bob took a position at JR Gerritts Junior High. He eventually transitioned to the high school where he remained until retirement. Together he and Coki built a family life filled with friendships, sports, travel and outdoor adventures.

Bob attended Winona State College graduating in 1960. He received a Master’s degree from UW Oshkosh in 1972. He began his career at Hill City, MN teaching math and coaching basketball. He loved teaching and the “aha” moment when a student understood a problem.

Family life was the heart of Bob’s life. He treasured time with his kids and grandkids, coaching them or enjoying outdoor adventures. They returned to MN every Christmas and summer, enjoying family holidays and renting a cabin on a favorite lake.

Coki gifted him his first rod and reel in 1959, taught him to use it and fishing became a new passion. Many many cherished times with children, grandchildren, in-laws, and his Wolf River buddies evolved from that gift.

Bob’s kindness, patience, and genuine care for others was always evident. He lived a life of service, adventure, and love. In his later years he continued enjoying the outdoors by taking up biking. He last

participated in the Door County Century Ride at age 83. He and Coki continued golfing and walking in local area nature preserves.

He is survived by his wife Coki; his children: Greg and Susie; his grandchildren: Rubyana and Kaili; his great granddaughter: Alara; siblings: Larry and Judie; many special nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded by his son Lance; his parents; his brother, Ed, his in-laws, Budd and Ida Hannan; and a special sister-in-law, Lauretta.

We would like to thank the young people that took care of Bob’s daily needs. You are truly angels! Your patience, love and kindness were always apparent.

The family invites those who knew and loved him to remember him not with sadness, but by enjoying the outdoors, gathering with family or taking a moment to appreciate life.

For Bob’s wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
