Richard Roy Schierl

Richard Roy Schierl passed away on November 25, 2024 at American Grand Assisted Living Suites with his family at his side.

Rich was born on November 16, 1940, Appleton, WI. He was the son of the late Sylvester “Sonny” Schierl and Ione (Hoffman) Eisch.

Rich graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Menasha. He worked at Earl Litho- Printing, George Banta Publishing Co., Appleton Street Department, Miller Electric and Outlook Graphics.

Rich married Sharon Horn on September 10, 1960. Together they raised a family, traveled, camped, fished, snowmobiled, picnicked and took casino bus trips quite a bit over the years. They weathered the blessings of good and bad. Sharon was by his side caring for him till the end.

Rich is survived by his wife Sharon of 64 years; children Shelia (Mike) Noll, Selena (Jay) Wacha, Shelly (Jeff) VanStraten, Shauna (Steve) Hollenback and Richard Jr – “Rusty” (Tracy) Schierl. Grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings Kathy Hoffman and Robert “Bob” Eisch. In addition, he is survived by sister-in-law Shirley Ciske as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his Step Father Edward Eisch, Infant son Roy, Siblings Ralph “Skip” (June) Schierl, Rex Eisch, Jennifer Drephal, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Frederick and Emma Horn, sister-in-law Lucille

(Charles) Davidson, brother-in-law, Norbert (Florence) Horn, Norman (Marion) Horn, James Ciske, Kenneth Hoffman.

Rich was a Lifetime Member of the NRA and various gun clubs.

His passion was riding his motorcycle and drag racing his 406 “RED” Ford. He enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, Canada and Alaska. Rich was an excellent trap shooter and entered in many state shooting events. He was an avid hunter. Deer and antelope in Wyoming, Elk in Montana, Moose in Canada and fulfilled his lifelong dream of “Elephant hunting in Africa”.

Rich’s greatest passion was for his family of six children Shelia, Selena, Shelly, Shauna, Richard Jr. (Rusty) and our baby angel Roy, 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Funeral Mass to be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Menasha, 528 2nd St, with Father Michael Lightner officiating. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 9:00 am until 11:00 am mass. Richard will be laid to rest at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Menasha, April 26, 2025 with his immediate family.

Richard’s family would like to extend a thank you to Ascension Home Health and Compassus Hospice.

A special thank you to Kermit, Kelly, Tameca, Erin, Brandon and Maddie staff from the American Grand Assisted Living Suites. As well as the residents who ate daily with Richard in the dining room who really look out for each other.
