Obituary

Richard (Dick) Loehning passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026. Surrounded by family, he eased into his afterlife following a very brief illness. He was born on September 27, 1932, son of Harry and Elsie Loehning, and resided in Menasha his entire life.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Eleanor (nee, Klepps), parents, Harry and Elsie Loehning, brother Donald and sister in-law Ruthanne Loehning, step grandson, Matthew Hanson and nephew, Jay Loehning,

He was blessed with six children, Scott (Kathy) Loehning of Conway SC, Loreli Spaay of Appleton WI, Thomas Loehning of Henderson NV, William Loehning of Omro WI, Sue (Jay) Vincent of Pembine WI, Kathy (Eliot) Hanson of Greenville, WI. Grandchildren, Bradley Sheets, Kelsey and Michael Spaay, Justin, Candace and Kathy Loehning, Michael (Elizabeth) Vincent, Benjamin (Kendra) Vincent, Rhys (Amber) Kuzdas, Kelson Kuzdas (Fiancee, Irene), Morgan (Alex) Kuzdas and Christopher Hanson. He has many great grandchildren. He adored them all. We recognize all extended family too numerous to list, including Don Loehning’s family and his cousin, Karen Williams.

He worked in the paper industry for his entire adult career; first at Bergstrom Paper Company and subsequently at Kimberly-Clark Badger Globe before retiring in 1996. Being a sociable man, he still met out regularly with his “work buddies” and easily charmed those around him until the very end of his life.

He volunteered for various organizations over his lifetime, including Boy Scouts, Boy’s Brigade where he was Camp Director at Camp Onaway, and the Menasha Historical (“Hysterical”--his words!) Society. He was very proud of his efforts to restore the Caboose at Smith Park. He was featured on a small segment of Menasha history that aired on PBS.

Dad was also a very talented man and had many hobbies and interests during his lifetime, including (though by no means limited to): dancing with Ellie, as members of the Merry Makers Dance Club (of which they were officers), being a scratch bowler in his early years, earning his pilots license, amateur radio, raising Bonsai trees, family genealogy and woodworking with a full wood working shop in his basement. His children and grandchildren were the lucky recipients of many of his beautiful and cherished woodworking projects.

Dad never met anyone he didn’t like and was the most accepting person you could meet. Family and friends meant the world to him. We will all greatly miss spending holidays at his home and time together out on his screen porch, where many events were celebrated and laughs were shared.

Unfortunately, his home was impacted by the July tornado which devastated Menasha. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a future date, when it can be held at the home both he and Ellie loved, once repairs are complete.

We wish to thank all friends, neighbors, extended family and complete strangers who helped during dad’s time of need after the tornado struck, and hospice/Renaissance care givers who gave dad such loving support during the last hours of his life. They were superbly attentive to all his needs. We will miss our dad, grandpa, uncle, friend, neighbor (and all around good guy) very dearly.
