Richard L. Kopelke, 84, passed away on December 10th, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him. Richard was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Charles Kopelke and Virginia (Marks) Kopelke on June 24th, 1940.
After graduating from Appleton High School, Richard joined the United States Marine Corps., where he served for four years and spent time stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After leaving the Marine Corps., Richard joined the United States Air Force and served another two years. Richard was fond of Japanese culture and often spoke highly of his time there.
After returning from military service, Richard began working for Kurz Electric as a mechanic and continued to work for Kurz until his retirement in 2012. He also met Kathleen Corning, whom he would marry on July 21st, 1974.
In his free time, Richard loved to spend time outdoors. He loved fishing, bowling, working in his garden, and relaxing in the sun. He was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed spending his Sunday afternoons at his mom’s house watching the game and playing backyard football with his brother, his children, and his nieces and nephews. But more than anything, Richard was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family, planning family vacations, playing games, and creating long-lasting memories with his family, neighbors, and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy, his brother Dave, and his three sons, Rick, Brian, and Scott. Richards's memory will be cherished by all who knew him. A private funeral service will be held at Wichmann’s funeral home on Saturday, December 14th. Donations can be sent to Richards's widow, Kathy Kopelke, in lieu of flowers at 2407 Barbara Ave, Appleton, WI, 54952.
