Rexford (Rex) L. Werth

December 16, 1942 — August 29, 2024

Appleton

Rex Werth, 81, passed away peacefully at Silverstone Memory Care in Grand Chute, WI, on August 29, 2024. He was born December 16, 1942, in the township of Matteson, WI, to the late Ward and Margaret (Gyrion) Werth.

He served in the Marines from 1960 to 1964, serving in South East Asia. He married his wife Lana (Fischer) in March of 1964 in California. He went to the police training in California before moving back to Wisconsin and starting his family. They raised two daughters, Katherine (Werth) Schmalz and Wendy Werth-Rusch.

He worked for Schmidt Oil installing heating and cooling in homes, then he applied to Appleton Papers as a shipping supervisor for 34 years. During those years he found his love of flying, tinkering on his beloved red pickup truck, camping with family, and trips out west. He also had a love for reading that he got from his mother. He especially enjoyed spending time during the Summer at the 4th of July fireworks with his extended family. He retired from Appleton Papers at the age of 63 to enjoy more camping and reading and long walks, and to spend time with family. At the age of 70 he was diagnosed with Parkinsons, a neurological disorder. Family surrounded him with care and love.

Rex was loved dearly by family and friends. He was very handy, and he knew a lot about plumbing, electrical, roofing, and siding. Just a small list of his handyman abilities. He also liked the recent television show and the book “All Creatures Great and Small” and the “Yorkshire Vet.” He liked quoting movies, particularly the movie “Madagascar” when the penguins said “well this sucks.”

Dinner time was always a treat with my dad, he would have some funny movie quote to help end the day. Thank you Papa, father, friend, brother, brother-in-law, and son, for being a part of our lives. You will be missed dearly.

Rex is preceded in death by his brother, Ward; and a sister, Connie; sister-in-law, Lona (Fischer) Smith; and brother-in-law, Gordon Smith. He is survived by ten siblings, Renee, Bill, Cindy, Dean, twins Denise and Dennis, Jackie, Joyce, and Sarah; along with forty-one nieces and nephews.

Rex is also survived by his wife, Lana; his daughters, Katherine (Marty) and Wendy; grandson, Nathaniel “Nate” Rusch and his fiancé Lydia; adopted grandchildren, Tobias, Samantha, and Anthony Schmalz; brothers-in-law, Lin and Lyle; and sister-in-law, Lois.

The family would like to express their thanks and care to all the nurses and caring staff at Silverstone Memory Care, Regina at Care Patrol, and Moments Hospice.

Rex’s wishes were to be cremated and to go back to the earth.
