Raymond J. Kersten

Ray Kersten, age 79 of Appleton, passed peacefully into the Lord’s hands on Sunday afternoon, August 11, 2024. Ray was born in Kaukauna on August, 14, 1944, son of the late Albert and Josephine (Eppinger) Kersten. He was a graduate of Kaukauna High School and served in the United States Army as a chef and a baker in Mannheim, Germany.

On May 31, 1969, Ray married the former Bonnie Krueger at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Appleton. Ray was employed for a time by Earl Litho Printing but most will remember him as the custodian at Fox Valley Lutheran High School. He was an avid fan of the Packers and Badgers and enjoyed travel as well as supporting the Lutheran Vanguard Marching Band.

Ray is survived by one daughter, Janet (Bob) Tegge of Menasha; his siblings include Charlotte (Adolph) Bloy, Marion Zwick, Bob (Mary) Kersten, and Mike (Carrie) Kersten, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, and by Nancy (Clarence) Bowers, Betty Kersten, Joan (Jim) Jaeckels, and Leta (Charles) Krueger.

The Christian Funeral Service for Ray will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St Paul Lutheran Church, located at 302 N. Morrison Street with Rev. Justin Shrum officiating. Ray will lie in state at the altar of St. Paul Church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. Full military honors will follow at the church. And interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.

The family would like to thanks special angels at Rennes Health and Rehab as well as the staff at AseraCare Hospice. We will always remember your loving care and kindness.

A memorial fund has been established for Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
