Peter F. Skaer

Peter F. Skaer, 82, of Appleton, WI passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021. Born on February 3, 1939 in Rochester, NY to Carl and Marion (Ellis) Skaer. Peter honorably served his country in the United States Army after graduation. He moved to Appleton, WI in 1963 where he became president of Scolding Locks Corporation until his retirement in 1995. After retirement he found his true passion in life as a craftsman of fine wood furniture. In his giving spirit, his works were never sold, but rather gifted to the many friends, kind neighbors, and loved ones who would sit and listen to his wildly embellished stories. Over the years, he also enjoyed fishing at his home in Door County and always treasured a good milkshake. Peter dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and the countless dogs he napped with over the years.

Peter is survived by his wife Barbara (VanHousen) Skaer, sister Sabra (Skaer) Harrington, children Ted (Carolyn) Skaer, Holly (Craig) Patterson, Jennifer (Ben) Boldt, grandchildren Emily, Evan, Lizzie, Chase, Tyler, and Zac, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law George Harrington, and daughter Kaarie Skaer.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living and his compassionate caregiver, Rose Hermsen, for their care the past few years.

A private service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
