Ottilie Glazier passed away peacefully Saturday evening, May 17, 2025, with family by her side after a brief illness.
Ottilie was as kind and loving to all as anyone could be. She was a wonderful and supportive partner to husband Roy until his death in 1992, dear and loving mother and mother in-law to sons Roy (Susan), Robert (Penny) and daughter Pamela, and doting grandmother to grandsons Grayson and the late Matthew.
Ottilie was born February 25, 1932, and was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. Her childhood family included mother May, father William, and sister Mary, as well as many relatives who had immigrated from Germany and Austria-Hungary. Sadly, her sister and father died while Ottilie was just a teen, but she stayed positive and active, and earned an academic scholarship to college, later graduating with degrees in Art and English from Edinboro State University. She began teaching, and soon met Roy who she would later marry. They as a couple moved to interesting and faraway places from Erie (Seattle, Washington DC, Chicago, Montpelier Vermont, and finally Appleton), having their children along the way, and enjoying an active life, yet one primarily focused on raising and being with family.
Ottile was active in many varied activities over the years. She sang in several choral groups including church choirs and Appleton’s Chaminade Women’s chorus (of which she served as president), she played golf in both couples and ladies leagues, bowled in leagues with husband Roy, enjoyed doing substitute teaching of art classes in varied school systems, and was active for many years at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church volunteering on committees focused on music, worship, and art in the church. She loved animals and had many wonderful miniature schnauzers over time. She enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers in the yard.
Words cannot express enough how loved and supported Ottilie made all who knew her feel. She was always concerned for others, focusing on all but herself. She never failed to ask how others were doing and always showed deep and genuine concern for any issues they may have. She was truly a living example of God’s grace and love for all and will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date, and will be updated here as soon as details are available. Please check back often.
Ottilie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton, Rennes Health and Rehabilitation, and Unity Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to either Fox Valley Humane Association or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Appleton Wisconsin.
