SASMAN, ORLO H.
Orlo Sasman, of Appleton, age 88, was called to his Eternal Home on Saturday, July 19, 2008 surrounded by his family. He was born October 6, 1919 in the town of Black Creek, to the late Philip and Elsie (Hanf) Sasman. Orlo was received into God's Kingdom through the water of Baptism on November 9, 1919 at St. John's Evangelical Church, Black Creek and confirmed that faith March 25, 1934. After his graduation from Appleton High School in 1938 he entered the Army Air Corp and proudly served his country during WWII in the European Theater. Orlo attended the Kansas City School of Watch making and graduated from the Milwaukee Vocational School. On August 21, 1954 he married Jean Schabow at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, where he currently was a member. Orlo had been employed as a part-time jeweler at Pitz and Triebers and as a full-time engineer at AAL (Thrivent) until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid bowler, Packer fan, being a season ticket holder for over 50 years. Orlo was a member of the American Legion Post 332 – Black Creek for over 60 years, serving in the past as Post Commander.
He is survived by his wife: Jean Sasman; daughter: Julie (Mike) Zimmer and their children, Holly, Joshua and Heidi (fiancé Paul Glasheen) Zimmer; sons: Bruce (Kelly) Sasman and their children, Sarah (Sam) Jacoby and Samantha (David) Taylor; Scott (Lynn) Sasman and their children, Joshua, Alissa, Maggie and Alyssa; great grandchildren: Jason and Elias Taylor; brother: John (Naomi) Sasman; sister-in-law: Georgine Sasman and Jean's family: Helen (Gene) Brahm, Marion Merkel, Enid Schabow, Ila Mae Schabow, Jean Karweick and George Franzke. Orlo is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Alvin “Happy” Sasman and Lloyd Sasman; sisters: Ruth Barkholz, Esther (Richard) Bowden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Betty Sasman, Joann Franzke, Evelyn (Carl) Meitner, Alvin, Norman, Gordon, Armin and Edwin Schabow, George Merkel and Janie Schabow.
The funeral service for Orlo will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at ST. MATTHEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH (129 S. Mason St., Appleton) with Rev. Paul T. Schuler officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The visitation will be held at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and again at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church or Fox Valley Lutheran High School are appreciated.
