Nancy Fawcett Winslow passed away January 31, 2024. Most recently, Nancy was a resident of The Heritage Senior Living facility in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Nancy was born on March 4, 1930 to Kenneth and Virginia Fawcett and grew up in Minneapolis, MN where she met her future husband, Richard Winslow in High School. Following their wedding, Nancy and Richard moved to Appleton where Richard was a professor of Spanish at Lawrence College. Nancy was a dedicated member of the Appleton community for more than 65 years. She served the Friends of the Appleton Library (FOAL) as chair of displays, director of mailings, chairwoman of children’s activities, and chaired the library booth at the summer art fair. In addition, she served on the steering committee for “Bread For the World” and founded and was President of the Appleton Cooperative Nursery. She also was active with the Pied Piper Nursery School, Project Bridges Day Care Center, ABC House and Church Women United through Memorial Presbyterian Church. For her volunteer efforts, Nancy was awarded the Janet Berry Volunteer of the Year Award by the Post-Crescent in 1985. Nancy also worked part time as church Secretary for Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Nancy was an adventurous traveler as well. She spent a full year in Madrid, Spain (speaking no Spanish!) where she gave birth to her second son, Paul. She returned to Spain 6 years later—this time with 4 children—for 5 months, and then spent 6 months in Southern California, just in time for the San Fernando earthquake. Following Richard’s retirement, they traveled to Canada, Costa Rica, and Europe. Nancy lived in view of the Fox River for many years and loved to watch its passing.
Nancy is survived by her brother David Fawcett (wife Joan), son Dana Winslow (wife Helen and son Adam and daughter-in-law Rachael), son Paul Winslow (daughter Rachael, son Christopher), daughter Sarah Beard (sons Andrew and daughter-in-law Chiora and Travis and fiancé Hannah, great-grandchildren Oliver and Gwendolyn) and son Matthew (wife Deborah). We love and miss her very much.
