Nancy Katherine Achterberg, 72, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born on May 11, 1941 to Ernest and Mary (Belehar) Branwall in Soudan, Minnesota. On April 6, 1963 she was united in marriage to Jack Achterberg. They were blessed to have just celebrated 50 years together. She worked as a bank teller in her early years and then became a homemaker. Nancy had a kind heart and caring ways and always reached out to everyone she met. She enjoyed playing bingo, crafts and going to the cabin. She also enjoyed going to the Fox Valley NAMIA and the Outreach Center. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, siblings and friends and those times will always be treasured. Nancy was a member of the Fox Valley NAMIA, First English Lutheran Church, Fox Valley Doll Club and she also was a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital and her church.
Nancy is survived by her husband Jack Achterberg, two daughters; Lisa (Brent) Buehler, Omro, Kristine (Martin) Radue, Plymouth, four grandchildren; Olivia and Casey Jo Buehler and Emily and Samuel Radue, siblings; Donna (James) Hill, Lee (Arlene) Branwall and Tina Chiabotti, a brother-in-law, Thomas (Sandy) Achterberg, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Rita Sunsdahl.
The funeral service for Nancy will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 4:00 PM at FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 326 East North St. with Rev. Mary Bauer officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in the Highland Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Fox Valley NAMIA, the Outreach Center or the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank the ICU staff and doctors at St. Elizabeth Hospital for their compassionate care over the last week and the Theda Clark Behavioral staff for their support throughout the years.
