Maurie Alan Jury, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Maurie will be remembered as a great conversationalist, a clever storyteller, and a gentle man who enjoyed doing things for others. He was generous, thoughtful, and kind. He was known and appreciated for his fun sense of humor.
Maurie was a lifelong resident of Appleton and a 1957 graduate of Appleton High School. He loved attending Terrors games and for many years was active on the class reunion committee. As a teen, Maurie enjoyed working as a lifeguard at Erb pool, also known as the “bird bath.”
After high school, he served with the 101st Airborne as a Paratrooper and an Army Medic at Fort Campbell, KY. He later worked at John Strange, where he became union president before moving into a supervisor role. He then started his own business; Expert Wallcovering, where his precision, patience, and focus on perfection was an art form. He was a Freemason, a member of the First English Lutheran Church, and a friend of Bill W. For years he enjoyed Bellaire Court neighborhood gatherings as well as lively Jury Family Reunions that often included at least three generations.
An attentive and caring husband, Maurie leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Carrie Jury. He is survived by his family; Lisa (Doug DeMers) Nabbefeld (Minneapolis, MN), Katie Beroukhim (Cardiff, CA), Sandy (Jim) Sullivan (Hortonville, WI), Joe Nabbefeld (Seattle, WA), Ben (Anne Marie) Nabbefeld (Tacoma, WA), and Mary (Sean) Dingeldein (Brookfield, WI). Grand and Great Grandchildren ; Tanya (John) Embers, Kira, Hannah and Rachel Sullivan, Max ( Kamilia) Nabbefeld, Eric (Amanda) Dingeldein, Alex Dingeldein, Arlo Embers, August and Francis Pruess, Freya and Louie Dingeldein,
The youngest of seven children, Maurie was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Gertrude (Stepmom Florence) Jury, siblings Stan (Rosemary), Emerson (Virginia), Don (Terry), Ray (Lois), Ramona (Frank) Stenis, and Gloria (Dick Ebben) (Milt) Tourkakis , grandson Taylor Sullivan.
Services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior, St., Appleton, WI. Visitation at 10:30 am, memorial service at 12 o'clock. Luncheon to follow.
