Matthew Roman Seifert entered this world on June 4, 1954, the first of seven children born to Donald Ralph “Charlie” Seifert, MD and Joan Mildred (Clemas) Seifert.
He grew up in Little Falls, Minnesota, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and waterskiing from the family home on the Mississippi River. He ran cross-country and wrestled for the Little Falls Flyers, and during his high school summers he worked at the local Dairy Queen.
Matt graduated from Little Falls High School on June 1, 1972. He attended St. John’s University before transferring to Creighton University, where he graduated cum laude on May 21, 1977. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Creighton University School of Medicine on May 16, 1981, and specialized in anesthesiology. Matt practiced anesthesiology for 35 years before retiring in June 2014.
Matt and Christine (Searl) Seifert, known as Chris, married on October 11, 1991. Each brought two children to the marriage: Jennifer (Schulz) Hughes, Kathryn (Schulz) Harris, Michael Seifert, and Emily (Seifert) Collins. They later welcomed Margaret (Seifert) Schaefer, completing a family built on love, commitment, and a deep sense of belonging. Matt and Chris shared a love of travel and cherished time with family at the cabin in St. Germain, Wisconsin.
Matt enjoyed many hobbies, especially fishing and hunting, and formed lasting friendships with the people who joined him on those adventures. Each year he looked forward to hunting at the Roach Farm in Florence, Wisconsin, and he celebrated a successful bear hunt in 2025. His fishing trips took him throughout the Midwest and into the deep sea, and this past summer he was grateful to enjoy a successful trip to Lake Erie.
Above all, Matt valued time and laughter with his family and friends. He loved sharing stories, and with each telling, they may have grown just a little bigger. He was deeply rooted in his faith and steadfast in his commitment to the Lord.
Matt is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Christine; his children, Jennifer (Michael) Hughes, Kathryn (Jason) Harris, Michael Seifert, Emily (Brian) Collins, and Margaret (Jeffrey) Schaefer; and his 13 grandchildren, Brett (Marilee), Cole, Kevin (Morgan), Kylie, Tyler, Caleb, Megan, Cameron, Riley, Evan, Breckin, Jake, and Kooper. He also recently became a proud great-grandfather of two.
He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Luke (Kathy) Seifert, Anne (Steve) Bruckner, John (Mary) Seifert, Paul (Renee) Seifert, and James (Shelly) Seifert; and by his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Susan Piper, Kathryn Searl (Alan Frey), and Charles (Sheri) Searl.
Matt will also be dearly missed by countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, whose company he cherished and who held a special place in his heart.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Joan Seifert; his parents-in-law, Davis and Gertrude Searl; his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Deanne Seifert; his brother-in-law, Dan Piper; and the family dog, Roscoe.
A memorial service will take place on Friday October 23, 2026, at 11:00am, at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E Glendale Ave, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:30am until 10:45am. Matt will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton, Wisconsin, two organizations dear to Matt’s heart.
