Mary K. Veitenhans

Mary (Barta) Veitenhans was born on November 5, 1940, to Maurice and Marian Barta in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was the first of six children-her siblings being Jean Zanzig (Dick), Paul Barta (Chris), Tom Barta (Jane), Patty Zeegers (Jim), Bill Barta (Sue). She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Paul, and her sister, Patty.

She spent her early years at St. Joseph’s Catholic School and Appleton West High School. After marrying Joseph Veitenhans Sr., they raised five children together- Joseph Veitenhans Jr. (Lorena), Jeffrey Veitenhans (Sandy), Peter Veitenhans (Susan), Pamela Ruck (Ward), Michael Veitenhans (Lisa). She moved with her family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1967. Then returned to Appleton in 2020 to be reunited with family and friends. She also has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mary retired from the Veterans Health Administration as an RN after serving over 10 years. During her time as an RN, Mary was known for the special care she provided veterans. She was a devout Catholic and attended services regularly. She spent her remaining years in Appleton living alongside her sister, Jean, and sister-in-law, Chris.

A funeral visitation will be held for Mary from 10-11 AM on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W Lawrence St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a mass to follow at 11 AM.  Mary will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton, WI at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Joseph Catholic Church in support of their community aid programs.  

The last piece of my puzzle is now complete.
