Mary A. Strange

August 10, 1940 — September 26, 2025

Appleton

Mary Strange was born on August 10, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to the late John G. Strange and Mary Alsted Strange. From an early age Mary displayed the qualities that would define her life: intelligence, determination, kindness, and a deep sense of responsibility. She graduated from Wayland Academy in 1958, where she formed lifelong friendships. After high school, she attended Lawrence University continuing her education in an environment that encouraged curiosity and growth.

Mary went on to build a distinguished career in banking. She joined Marine Bank, and through dedication, professionalism, and a sharp mind for finance, she had a successful career. She earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

Outside of her career, Mary was an enthusiastic sports fan always following games with energy and excitement. She also developed a lifelong love for golden retrievers. Breeding and showing these dogs became both a hobby and a joy. Many of her dogs earned recognition, but even more importantly, they brought happiness to Mary and those who shared her life.

Mary was devoted to her community. She volunteered her time generously, giving back in ways both visible and behind the scenes. At Peabody Manor and the Hearthstone Historic Home, she contributed her knowledge and leadership.

She also played an important role at Memorial Hospital, where she ran the gift shop for many years. Her presence there was more than managerial—she offered a welcoming smile, kind words, and thoughtful service to patients, families, and staff.

Mary Strange’s legacy is one of hard work, kindness, and generosity. Her contributions, both professional and personal will be remembered by both colleagues and friends.

Mary is survived by her brothers Peter Strange (Virginia) and John David Strange (Shirley), Nieces and Nephews, John MacGregor Strange, Sarah Kapitz (George), Carrie Hartman (Dane), and Jill Strange, her great nieces and nephews, Xavier Strange (Betsy), Lily Strange, John Bennett Strange, Emma Hardy, Willow Kapitz, Ash Kapitz, Skye Hartman, Sage Hartman, Jaxson Harwood, Rydan Harwood, and great, great nieces, Zhene Crockett and Lovelace Crockett.
