Mary Alice Vanden Heuvel

VANDEN HEUVEL, MARY ALICE

Mary Alice Vanden Heuvel, of Appleton, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2009 with her family at her side. She was born on May 18, 1934 in Oshkosh, the daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Hartske) Hall. Mary Alice grew up in Oshkosh and graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1952. On August 9, 1958 she married Eugene Vanden Heuvel at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oshkosh. They made their home in Appleton and were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, historian and loved combining these passions with her travels both internationally and in the United States. Mary Alice also enjoyed theatre and fine dining. She was employed at the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern, Appleton City Hall, and finished her career path at Albany International, retiring in 1996. Mary Alice was active in the Democratic Party and volunteered at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Lincoln Elementary School.
Mary Alice is survived by her children: Alice (Richard) Jandourek, Appleton; Dr. Jack (Dawn) Vanden Heuvel, State College, Pennsylvania and Don (Michele) Vanden Heuvel, Kimberly; eight grandchildren: Amy (Jeremy) Mills, Carrie and Rick Jandourek; Andy and Emma Vanden Heuvel; Eve, John, and Aaron Vanden Heuvel and her sister: Cathy Huberty, Lena. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Vanden Heuvel.
The funeral liturgy for Mary Alice will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence Street, Appleton. Father Larry Abler will be officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Oshkosh. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
