Mary Alice Kuehl

May 19, 1926 — October 22, 2016

Mary A. Kuehl, age 90 passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2016 with her family at her side. She was born May 19, 1926, daughter of Joe and Hazel Held. She was raised in Wausau, Wisconsin and was one of three children. Mary married Kenneth Kuehl on December 13, 1947 and they celebrated 44 years of marriage together. Mary worked for the dentist Dr. Kolter, where she met her husband Ken; she also worked as a receptionist at Lawrence University for Dr. Richard Knight. Mary and Ken then decided to settle in Appleton where they found a wonderful home and raised their family. As a loving grandma, Mary was always there to babysit and care for her grandchildren.

Mary was always a crafty person and made everything from flower arrangements to scrapbooks; she was even part of a group who sold crafts at Appleton Medical Center. Mary was also a very active member of First United Methodist Church, where she celebrated over fifty years of fellowship. She helped with many salad luncheons, taught Sunday school, worked in the nurseries, and was head of the chancel committee for forty years. Mary always made sure her church was decorated beautifully.

Mary is survived by her children: Jeff {Terri} Kuehl of Waunakee and Leigh (Mike) Stormer of Appleton; a daughter-in-law Gail Kuehl of Appleton; eight grandchildren: John (Lora) Kuehl, Jennifer (Mike) Murphy, Theresa Kuehl (Nathan Drege), Tyler (Clare) Kuehl, Sarah (Bryan) Manke, Trevor Kuehl, Alexa Kuehl, and Matthew (Brooke) Stormer; five great-grandchildren: Finley, Rowan, Reese, Julius, and Bronson, as well as many other family members whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Kuehl and son Scott Kuehl, her parents, Hazel and Joe Held, and her sisters: Elizabeth Olson and Joanne Kent.
