Martha “Marti” Schmall (Toshner), age 81 of Appleton, WI passed away on April 12, 2026. She was born to the late George and Grace (Eichmann) Toshner on August 11, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI. After graduating high school, she earned a bachelor of science from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and went on to work managerial and supervisorial positions for WE Energies/WEC Group. She helped maintain power in people’s homes and businesses for over 38 years before her happy and comfortable retirement. Marti met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Schmall and they were married shortly thereafter, raising two wonderful children together.
Family, travel, and nature were at the forefront of Marti’s life. Marti and Bob were National Parks and Refuges volunteers for many years – together, they worked to create and present nature programs for visitors. They spent 7 years traveling to the US National Parks, living with each other out of their camper and enjoying the beauty of nature around them. More than anything, though, Marti loved her family and cherished every moment she could spend with her kids and grandkids. She was so proud of everyone she helped to raise.
Marti will be deeply missed by her sons, Brian (Kelly) and Eric (Grace); her grandsons, Zachary and Brandon (Maddie); her siblings, Pat, George (Marsha), Kathy (Max), and Debbie (Roger); her brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Peter & Barb; as well as many nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and dear friends.
Marti is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; brothers-in-laws Andy, Richard, Lenny; sister-in-law Margaret.
A memorial visitation will be held from 9-11 AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, N2385 Municipal Dr, Greenville, WI 54942 with a mass to follow at 11 AM. Marti will be laid to rest with her husband at the church’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a local charity or animal shelter.
Marti’s family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff of The Heritage for taking such good care of her in her last few years.
