Marion E. Dhein

March 22, 1928 — January 17, 2015

Marion Dhein, age 86 of Sherwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, January 17, 2015. She was born in Manitowoc on March 22, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Schiesl) Schmatz. On July 17, 1948, Marion married James Dhein; he preceded her in death in 2004. As a young woman, Marion worked in an office in Manitowoc, but after her marriage remained home as a dedicated wife and mother. There she perfected her baking and cooking, quilting and sewing, stained glass, and other crafting. She and Jim were avid travelers, having visited their homeland in Germany, other places in Europe, and all of the 50 states. She was an active volunteer in the Sherwood area and gave many hours to community service. When her sons were young, she was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts.

She is survived by her loving children: David (Jayne) Dhein of Sherwood; Robert (Peggy) Dhein of Sherwood; and Mary Jo Dhein of Phoenix. Marion was completely devoted to the grandchildren she loved so much, and will be missed by her grandchildren: Matthew (Eleasha) Dhein, Kathryn Dhein, Megan (Christopher) Martin, Hannah Dhein, Sarah Dhein, and Kelle (Monika Mlynarska) Dhein; and her two great-grandsons: Mason and Mac. She is also survived by two brothers: Joseph (Lois) Schmatz of Kellnersville and Robert (Delores) Schmatz of Manitowoc; three sisters: Betty Musial of Manitowoc; Anna (Milton) Hassemer of Francis Creek; and Frances (Harold) McDonnell of Manitowoc. Jim's family was also a very important part of Marion's life, and she was dearly loved by all of the Dhein family, those who survive, and those who have gone before her. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim in 2004, a brother: Arthur Schmatz, and a brother-in-law: Raymond Musial.
