Margaret J. Young from Appleton, WI, age 85, passed away after a short illness on October 30, 2025.

Margaret (Margie) was born to the late Edmund and Theodora (Gietman) Cops on February 20, 1940 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. She was the youngest of eleven children. In 1948, the Cops family immigrated to Kimberly, WI.

On September 28, 1957, Margaret was united in marriage to her wonderful husband Paul R. Young at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton, WI. They were blessed with 3 great sons. Paul passed on 7-16-2021. Margie and Paul were blessed with 63 years of marriage.

Margie attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Appleton and St. Mary High School, Menasha. In 1970 Margie, together with her husband Paul, became temporary foster parents to 210 children at the Outagamie County Receiving Home in Appleton, WI. In 1974 the family moved to Stockbridge, WI and operated the Lakeview Motel and Restaurant for the next 30 years, while also providing room/board for 40 seniors. In retirement they spent the next 17 winters as “snowbirds” in Gulf Shores AL making many new friends. Margie enjoyed swimming and the time spent with her friends at the Heart of the Valley YMCA. She reached her goal of swimming 1,000 miles.

Margie is survived by 3 sons: Daniel Young (Karen) Fort Meyers FL, Kenneth Young (Kelly) Oconomowoc, WI, and Joseph Young (Joan) Palm Beach Gardens FL, 1 brother: Fr. Gus Cops, OFM CAP, Appleton.

Margie is also survived by 7 grand-children: John Young (Erica) Seymour, Brian Young (Chelsey) Wash, D.C, Jesse Young (Mackenzie) West Bend, Jenna Davidson (Patrick) W. Palm Beach, FL, Conner Young (Lexi) Boiling Springs, SC, Brittany Young, Amanda Young, 2 step-grand-children: Chelsey Hoisington, Parker (Jessuca) Hoisington. 5 great-grand-children: Claire and Jack Davidson, Penny and Cole Young Northrup, Bailey Williamson, and two more expected in 2026; 4 step-great-grand-children: Parker Jr, Myah, Stella, and Reemy Hoisington. Other survivors: 1 brother-in-law James “Dell” Young, 2 sisters-in-law Joyce Cops, Beverly Young, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2021, her parents Edmund and Theodora Cops, Great-grandson Finn Lee Young, 5 sisters and 5 brothers-in-laws: Nelly and Martin Van Nuland, Mary and Peter (Bill) Havinga, Annie and Ken Schuh, Dorothy and Joseph Van Nuland, Josie and John Vincent: 4 brothers and 3 sisters-in-law: Fr. Peter Cops, sss, Eddie (Beverly) Cops, Jerry (Bernice) Cops, Henry “Hank” Cops, Ellie Vincent.

Parents-in-law Adelbert and Gertrude (Biebelhausen) Young, 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-laws: Otto and Carol (Young) Korth, Ray Young, Joyce Young, Terry Young,

Margie was a caring Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and Friend.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Margaret at 11 AM, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church– Kimberly Site, 620 E. Kimberly Ave, Kimberly, WI 54136. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10 AM to the time of Mass. Inurnment will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery, Kimberly. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Cops Foundation or the charity of your choice is appreciated.

The family would like to thank Unity Hospice and St. Paul Villa for all the excellent care they provided for Margie, along with all the nieces and nephews and other family and friends for all their love, prayers and support.
