Margaret L. Mankovecky

November 25, 1922 — September 20, 2012

Margaret Mankovecky, who was also lovingly known as “Marnie” and Grandma Marnie”, age 89, passed away surrounded by her family at Brewster Village in Appleton early on Thursday, September 20, 2012. Margaret was born in Warsaw, Indiana on November 25, 1922, daughter of the late John Austin Dillon and Anna Mae (Goggins) Dillon. She was a 1941 graduate of East DePere High School and shortly thereafter moved to Milwaukee. There she met her future husband, John Mankovecky. The couple married on August 24, 1946 at St. John Cathedral in Milwaukee, and relocated to Kaukauna in 1954. John died suddenly in April of 1964, and Maggie was left to raise the children on her own. Her children thank her to this day for her commitment to her family. For a time she resided in Dallas, Texas and worked as an accounting clerk at a local property management company. She retired in 1988 and moved back to the valley at that time. Everyone will remember that her greatest love was painting. She worked in various media, including oils, watercolors, and acrylics. She was acknowledged by a local newspaper, and an exhibit was held in Kaukauna. Over the years, she continued her art education by taking classes at Richland College in Texas and Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton. She loved to camp, golf, and play Scrabble with her friends. In recent years, she played Wii Golf with her friends at Golden Venture Apartments.

Survivors include three sons: Bob (Nan) Mankovecky of Kaukauna; Roy (Julie) Mankovecky of Kaukauna; and Keith (Lisa) Mankovecky of Darboy; a daughter: Jean (Mark) Van Thiel of Combined Locks; a daughter-in-law: Sharon Mankovecky of Manitowoc; eleven grandchildren: Abby (George) Holzschuh, Eric (Coree) Van Thiel, John Mankovecky and his special friend Melanie Arnoldussen, Penny (Kevin) Frelich, Tracy (Sam) Scott, Tammy (Jason) Wagner, Tyler (Sara) Mankovecky, Dr. Michael (Jennifer) Mankovecky, Jason Mankovecky and his special friend Ashley Oldham, Kyle Mankovecky and his special friend Sarah Salo, and Sarah Mankovecky and her special friend Corey Coonen. There are also twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters: Agnes Williams of Texas; Jo Ann Dillon of Milwaukee; and Rita (Bud) Klika of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and a sister-in-law: Lee Dillon of Viroqua. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, a son Curt, a brother Ralph Dillon, a sister Helen Ann Scott, and a brother-in-law Edwin Williams.

The funeral liturgy for Margaret will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 24, 2012 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street in Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt and sincere thanks to all of the caregivers at Brewster Village. You have very difficult jobs, and it must be hard to be a blessing to your patients each and every day, so we thank you for all that you have done for our family. Mom could have been in no better hands. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten by our grateful family.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
