Margaret D. Block

August 26, 1925 — July 5, 2022

Menasha

Margaret D. Block, age 96, passed peacefully on July 5, 2022 at Matthews Assisted Living in Neenah. She was born August 26, 1925, daughter of the late Louis and Sally (Gracyalny) Zielinski. Marge married Bob Block on November 30, 1946 at St. John Catholic Church, Menasha, where she was a lifelong parishioner and member of the choir. Her solo performances of Ave Maria brought the listeners to tears at many weddings.

Marge loved interacting with people and naturally excelled in her 30-year career as a waitress at the Menasha Elks. After retirement, Bob and Marge spent winters with Tony and Helen August (Bob’s sister and brother-in-law) in Florida, beachcombing for shells and visiting Marge’s snowbird siblings. Casino bus trips with family and friends were also a favorite pastime for many years.

Marge and Bob were avid sports fans. Their grandchildren could always count on their applause in the stands for events from grade school through college. Her (often loud) cheerleading continued with the great grandchildren into her final months.

Coming from a family of ten children, Marge always found a way to standout at the weekend gatherings and card games with the family. At 96 she was still the life of the party.  As we say goodbye to our “GG”, we will not forget her favorite greeting...”Hi, how are ya?”

Survivors include, a loving and supportive blended family: son Bradley Block (former wife Peg Ebben); daughter, Pamela (Timothy) Britzke. Seven grandchildren: Sara (Jeffrey) Plath, Kraig (Jennifer) Knorr, Erin (Nathan Bannow) Block, Andra (Matthew) Schmidt, Christopher (Liesl) Britzke, Travis (Sara) Britzke and Brian (Rachel Adolphson) Britzke.  Thirteen great grandchildren: Caleb, Colin, Cody, Emily, Cameron, Isaac, Joseph, Leo, Brecken, Hadley, Hope, Jax and Ariz.  Two siblings: Leona Zingler and Raymond Zielinski and sister-in-law Nettie Block and many nieces and nephews.

Marge was preceded in death by seven of her siblings along with their spouses and four in-laws. Several nieces and nephews also preceded her in death.

A Memorial Mass will be held on her birthday, August 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 516 DePere St. in Menasha. Visitation will be prior to Mass at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery, corner of Olde Midway and Racine Roads in Menasha.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Melisa and staff at Matthews Assisted Living for the extraordinary and unconditional care provided to mom over the past six years, always including Marge’s family as part of their extended family.  We would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for the wonderful compassionate care given, regardless the time of day, during mom’s illness.
