Louis J. Seegers

Louis Seegers, age 92, passed away at Brewster Village early on Saturday morning, July 6, 2013. Louis was born in Darboy on March 19, 1921, son of the late John and Marie (Vanden Wyngaard) Seegers. Over the years, Louis was involved in a variety of careers. He was in the restaurant and bar business in Green Bay, Appleton, Chilton, and Hilbert; he worked as a driver for the New Hope Center in Chilton; and also worked as a maintenance supervisor at the Chilton High School for twenty years. He loved horse racing, playing cards, visiting the casino, and telling stories. During World War II, he served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Louis was married to Florence Schmidt, and together the couple had two sons. Later, he married Gladys Owen, and the family grew larger. In July of 1987, he married Catherine Buchinger Popp, and the roots of his family tree grew once again. He is survived by his wife: Catherine Seegers of Kimberly; four sons: Roger (Connie) Seegers of Appleton; Wayne (Janice) Seegers of Fremont; Scott (Judy) Owen of Santa Cruz, California; and Stephen (Beverly) Owen of Hilbert. Catherine also has nine children: Patricia (Gerald) Moehn of Stockbridge; Susan (Judd) Vollmer of Menasha; Fredrick (Rose) Popp of St. John; Kathleen (Gerald) Theel of Kiel; Peter (Sue) Popp of St. Nazianz; Nancy Robers of Arizona; Gregory (Shirley) Popp of Menasha; Maxine Orth of Cleveland; and Rachel (Paul) Anciaux of Hixton. Louis also leaves behind 49 grandchildren, 50 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Lillian (Joe) Hermsen of Kimberly; and two sisters-in-law: Mary Margaret Schmidt of Seymour and Dorothy Buchinger of Appleton. He was preceded in death by his parents, ten brothers and sisters, Catherine's ten brothers and sisters, and two grandsons: Douglas Moehn and Travis Seegers.

The funeral liturgy for Louis will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Angels Church in Darboy. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate, and burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.
