Lorraine E. (Hutchins) Wittig, age 88, passed away at Primrose Retirement Community on April 23, 2026. She was born at Eau Galle, Wi, in Dunn County to Shirley L. and Evelyn Shafer Hutchins where she grew up and graduated from Durand, WI High School before marrying Giles Wittig.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Giles Wittig, four daughters Jackie (Duane Floyd), Michele (Charles Hagen), Karen (Eric Brandt), Peggy (Mike Keil) and one son Barry (Diane). Surviving also are 9 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother, James Hutchins of Mondovi, WI and two brothers-in-law James Krings of Elmwood, WI and William Jusela of Rochester, MI.
Lorraine was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia (Krings) and Sharon (Jusela) and a brother Charles.
Lorraine married Giles Wittig November 5, 1957, and became a homemaker-she was always there when the kids came home from school. Lorraine enjoyed playing bridge and carrying on extended conversations with friends, but she also volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful quilts throughout her active life. Unfortunately, Lorraine was an early victim of dementia and spent too many of her senior years in an assisted living facility. Thanks to the caring staff at Primrose Memory Care, she spent her last years in comfort and happiness. She maintained her cheerful disposition to the end. Thanks also to St. Croix Hospice for their participation in her care during her final months and days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday May 20, 2026, at 11:00am at St Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W Marquette Street, Appleton. A visitation will take place from 9:00am until mass begins. Lunch will be served in the church basement following mass.
Lorraine will be interred at St Mary’s Cemetery in the chapel overlooking the Fox River.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
