Lorraine Mars was born on August 17, 1937, in Calumet, MI. She moved to Detroit after high school to pursue a career in administrative services, in which she had a long, successful career with a variety of prestigious companies. While in Detroit, she met, and in 1959, married Arne Niemi. After their first two children were born they moved to Battle Creek, where they had their third child. After the family moved to Anaheim, California in 1977, Lorraine joined Pilot International, a community-based volunteer service organization, and also continued to work until she and Arne retired and moved back to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and later to Plainfield, IL. After Arne passed away in 2007, Lorraine moved to Kaukauna, WI to be near her eldest son and his family, where she was a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church and dedicated volunteer at Loaves and Fishes of the Fox Valley. She loved playing with her grandchildren, trips to Disneyland, exploring the US and Europe, and staying connected to both the Mars and Niemi sides of the family.

Lorraine is survived, and will be much missed, by siblings Judith and Bruce (Elaine); children Pamela Niemi-Gering (Thomas), and Steven Niemi (Valarie); daughter-in-law Lori Niemi; grandchildren Chad (Tami), Brian (Jenny), Lauren, and Matthew; great-grandchildren Riley, Grayson, Katrina, Payton, Vivian, and Ella; and step-grandchildren Tiffany (Danny), Cedric, and Juliette. Lorraine’s son Mark Niemi passed before her in 2024.
