Age 84, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011. “π” was born in Appleton on December 6, 1926, the daughter of the late George and Esther (Kumbier) Weinfurter. On August 16, 1958 she married the love of her life, Arthur Nielsen. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator, and was a librarian at the Appleton Public Library, where she was known to children as the “Story Lady,” both at the library and on the radio. She then worked as a librarian at the Institute of Paper Chemistry. Together with her husband, they successfully operated their own business in the cheese industry for over 30 years. Her hard work, devotion to her family, cheerful attitude, and infectious smile, brought encouragement and joy to her family and friends.
Lois is survived by her husband, Arthur; children: Heidi (Tom) Folks of St. George, UT, and Bart (Jane) Nielsen of Appleton; five grandchildren: Hannah and Sarah Folks, and Rebekah, Josiah and Ethan Nielsen; brother, George “Jack” Weinfurter, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Catherine “Kitty” Weinfurter. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Weinfurter; and sister-in-law, Mary Weinfurter.
A celebration of Lois' life and homegoing will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 300 Broad St., Menasha, with Rev. Steven Billings officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
